Privacy for families: kids, photos and who has access
Practical habits for homes where everyone shares devices, accounts and a lot of pictures.
Families are a privacy puzzle. Kids need independence, parents need oversight, and everyone is sharing photos of everyone.
Photos and kids
- Share family photos in a private, invitation-only space, not in a public feed.
- Remember that a photo can reveal a school, a street or a routine.
- Ask older kids before posting their pictures. It builds the habit of consent.
Accounts and passwords
- Give each person their own login. Shared logins hide who did what and make recovery messy.
- Pick one adult as owner and a second as backup, so a lost phone is never a crisis.
- Teach kids one rule: never share a code that arrives by text or email.
Lost phones
A lost phone should be a quick fix: sign it out from another device, change the password and move on. Plans with a family page let an owner do exactly that.
Talk first, control second
The best protection for kids online is a family that talks about it. Tools help, but trust does most of the work.
